BIO 106

Official Course Description of BIO 106:

This course is an introduction to basic concepts and unifying principles of cell and molecular biology. Topics include cell and molecular biology, genetics, and energetics. Laboratory sessions are an integral part of the course.

My Description of BIO 106:

In this biology course we learned a lot about the cell such as the cell cycle and the organelles.  Additionally, we learned a lot about genetics such as the structure of DNA, and defects in the DNA.  While this was a science course, our laboratory sessions brought a new level of analyzing the topics we were learning.  Lecture was a lot of note taking and memorization.  Lab was hands on and pulled in research and readings from outside recourses.  Lab reports were at first very challenging, but throughout the course became easier with practice.  One of the most difficult parts of writing a lab report was the inclusion of peer reviewed articles.  Data collected by others had to be analyzed and compared to the data collected in lab.  This can be seen in my lab report on fermentation.
